The Six Million Dollar Man is an American science fiction television series that premiered in 1973, following Colonel Steve Austin, a former astronaut and test pilot who is severely injured in a crash. Rebuilt by the government with bionic implants that give him superhuman strength, speed, and vision, Austin becomes a secret agent for a fictional government organization called OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence).
The series ran for five seasons (1973–1978) and became a cultural phenomenon, spawning merchandise, films, and a spin-off series (The Bionic Woman). Each episode typically featured Austin using his bionic abilities to complete dangerous missions, with the iconic opening narration describing his reconstruction: "We can rebuild him. We have the technology."
The show was influential in popularizing the concept of bionics in popular culture and represented a significant moment in 1970s television, blending action, science fiction, and spy thriller elements. It remains a touchstone of the era and has been referenced and parodied extensively in subsequent media.
