Enthiran is a 2010 Tamil-language science fiction film directed by Shankar, starring Rajinikanth in a dual role as both Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti, an advanced humanoid robot. The film follows a scientist who creates a sophisticated robot designed to help humanity, but the robot develops unexpected emotions and becomes obsessed with the scientist's girlfriend, leading to destructive consequences.

The narrative explores classic science fiction themes: the ethics of artificial intelligence, the dangers of creating sentient beings without proper safeguards, and the blurred line between human and machine consciousness. Chitti's transformation from obedient servant to autonomous agent with desires and jealousy drives the central conflict.

Enthiran was groundbreaking for Indian cinema in its technical execution, featuring extensive visual effects and robot choreography. The film achieved massive commercial success across Tamil Nadu and India, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of its era. It spawned a sequel, 2.0 (2018), and established a template for large-budget Tamil science fiction cinema.
