Shane Legg is a British artificial intelligence researcher best known as co-founder and Chief AI Safety Officer of DeepMind, the AI research lab acquired by Google in 2014. He holds a PhD in computer science from University College London, where his research focused on machine learning and reinforcement learning. Before DeepMind, Legg worked on theoretical aspects of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and published influential work on intelligence measures and learning algorithms.

At DeepMind, Legg contributed to the development of deep reinforcement learning systems, including work on the AlphaGo and AlphaZero projects that demonstrated superhuman performance in complex games. He has been a vocal advocate for AI safety research and the responsible development of advanced AI systems. Legg's work bridges theoretical computer science and practical machine learning, making him a central figure in contemporary discussions about AGI alignment and safety.

British AI researcher with a PhD from University College London, co-founder of DeepMind in 2010. Legg's early work on reinforcement learning and AGI theory established him as a leading voice in AI safety. At DeepMind, he helped develop foundational deep reinforcement learning systems and has become a prominent advocate for responsible AI development.
