Aubrey David Nicholas Jasper de Grey is a British biogerontologist best known for proposing the SENS (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence) framework, which argues that aging is fundamentally a medical problem that can be solved through targeted biotechnologies. He founded the SENS Research Foundation in 2009 to fund research into seven categories of age-related damage, including DNA damage, mitochondrial mutations, and cellular senescence.

De Grey earned a degree in computer science from Cambridge University before transitioning to biogerontology in the 1990s. He has become a prominent public intellectual on life extension, arguing that humans could achieve "longevity escape velocity"—a state where medical advances extend life expectancy faster than time passes. His work has influenced the longevity research field and attracted significant funding, though his more optimistic timelines remain controversial among mainstream gerontologists.

Beyond research, de Grey is known for his distinctive appearance (long beard and ponytail) and his role as a public advocate for treating aging as a disease. He has appeared in documentaries, given numerous TED talks, and engaged in public debates about the feasibility and ethics of radical life extension.
