The UK AI Security Institute is the United Kingdom's first dedicated state body for AI safety and security evaluation, established following the Bletchley Declaration on AI Safety in November 2023. Originally launched as the AI Safety Institute, it was renamed to the AI Security Institute in 2025 to reflect its expanded remit beyond safety to include broader security considerations. The institute conducts frontier AI model evaluations, develops safety and security standards, and advises the UK government on AI governance and risk mitigation. It operates as part of the UK's regulatory infrastructure for advanced AI systems and collaborates internationally on AI safety research and best practices.
