The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is the civilian space agency of the United States federal government. Established during the Cold War space race, NASA has conducted human spaceflight programs including Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo, landing humans on the Moon in 1969. The agency also operates the Space Shuttle program, the International Space Station partnership, and conducts robotic exploration of the solar system and deep space.

Beyond human spaceflight, NASA manages major scientific missions including the Hubble Space Telescope, Mars rovers, and the James Webb Space Telescope. The agency employs thousands of scientists, engineers, and support staff across multiple field centers and conducts fundamental research in aeronautics, Earth science, planetary science, and astrophysics. NASA's work has shaped modern understanding of the universe and remains central to US technological leadership and international space cooperation.
