The Future of Humanity Institute was a research institute at the University of Oxford founded in 2005 to study existential risks, long-term futures, and humanity's potential. Led by philosopher Nick Bostrom, FHI became a leading center for research on topics including artificial intelligence safety, biosecurity, space colonization, and global catastrophic risks. The institute combined philosophical analysis with empirical research to inform policy and public discourse on humanity's most pressing long-term challenges.

FHI operated as an independent research unit within Oxford's philosophy faculty, attracting scholars from multiple disciplines including computer science, physics, economics, and public policy. The institute published influential work on existential risk frameworks, AI alignment, and future studies methodology. In 2024, FHI was dissolved and its research programs were integrated into the newly established Existential Risk Observatory at Oxford.
