The Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) is a coalition of technology companies, media organizations, and standards bodies working to establish open technical standards for digital content provenance. Founded to address concerns about deepfakes, misinformation, and content manipulation, CAI develops specifications that allow creators to embed cryptographic credentials in digital media, enabling verification of content origin, edit history, and authenticity.

The initiative operates under the auspices of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a broader standards-setting effort. CAI's work includes the development of the Content Credentials specification, which can be embedded in images, videos, and other media formats to provide tamper-evident records of content creation and modification.

Participants include major technology companies like Adobe, Microsoft, and others committed to building trust in digital media through technical standards rather than centralized gatekeeping.
