Climate TRACE is a coalition of environmental organizations, technology companies, and climate experts dedicated to creating transparent, independent, and scientifically rigorous emissions data. The initiative uses satellite imagery, machine learning, and other advanced technologies to identify and quantify greenhouse gas emissions from major industrial sources globally, including power plants, oil and gas infrastructure, shipping, and aviation.
The coalition was formed to address the lack of independent, real-time emissions monitoring at the facility level. By making emissions data publicly accessible, Climate TRACE aims to enable governments, investors, and civil society to hold polluters accountable and make evidence-based climate policy decisions. The project has released multiple datasets tracking emissions across different sectors and geographies, contributing to greater transparency in global climate action.
