The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the national academy for natural sciences of the People's Republic of China. Founded in 1949 as the Academy of Sciences of the Chinese People's Republic, it was renamed to its current form in 1977. CAS operates as the highest-level research institution in China, overseeing numerous research institutes, laboratories, and centers across the country.

CAS conducts research across a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences, information sciences, and engineering. The organization plays a central role in China's scientific and technological development, contributing significantly to national research initiatives and international scientific collaboration.

With headquarters in Beijing, CAS maintains a network of research institutions throughout China and internationally. It serves as both a research organization and an advisory body to the Chinese government on scientific and technological matters. CAS has become increasingly prominent in global science, particularly in fields like quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and space exploration.
