Alignment Research Center / METR

The Alignment Research Center (ARC) was founded by Paul Christiano to conduct research on AI alignment and interpretability. ARC developed evaluation frameworks for assessing AI system behavior and safety properties. In 2023, ARC spun out METR (Measurement and Evaluation of Reasoning and Trustworthiness), a separate organization focused on evaluating frontier AI models for dangerous autonomous capabilities and misalignment risks. METR conducts red-teaming and capability assessments of large language models and other advanced AI systems to identify potential failure modes before deployment.
